Plush Toys – The Color, Feel and Size

The color, feel and size of your plush toys are three of the most important things that you would have to consider if you plan on making them. Stuffed toys usually stimulate two senses – vision and touch. Why do toy designers spend a lot of time in planning the color, feel and size of the toys in addition to the overall design? Here are brief explanations about each one:

o Color

Plush toys, especially the large ones, should be visually entertaining. Let’s face it. These toys don’t have moving parts that more advanced toys have. That’s why your toys‘ success depends a lot on their color. It’s important to choose colors that are visually appealing. If you’re making a pattern out of something, like an animal, it’s important to choose colors that are realistic. As the toy inventor, it’s your responsibility to be as specific with the color as possible. You can check out a professional color guide to make sure that you’re on the same page with your designer in terms of color. It’s for your protection as well.

o Size

We don’t usually see very large plush toys. Although a lot of people would think that the value is greater compared to the smaller ones, you have to consider the fact that you have to ship it around. As a manufacturer of wholesale plush toys, you would have a lot that you would have to ship around to reach out to your customers. Sure, you can increase the price to make up for the added cost. But your customers wouldn’t appreciate that. But be careful about making them too small. This will give you a lesser chance of putting in a lot of details on your toys. I mean, how can you put a detailed shirt with words on it on a 2 inch stuffed toy?

o Feel

One of the best things about plush dolls is they are not just for display. They are also meant to be touched. This makes large stuffed toys popular. It feels good to touch and hug a big cuddly toy. So how do you want your plush doll to be? Do you want it to be softer? How about smoother? This is a matter of perception. I suggest that you visit a toy store and “touch” around, so to speak. Take into consideration the different materials and stuffing used, and choose the one you’re most comfortable with.

Now that you have this information, you can talk to your manufacturer about it. You can ask for their opinions because they’re the experts. They can also explain to you further the importance of the color, size and feel of the plush toys.
